I wish- wish- wish I liked Lost Planet. The graphics are beautiful and the story is interesting. But I hate the never ending battles. I love a game where you fight for a while and then the enemies stop coming and you can have a break- and look around and even explore some of the stuff.
I played for a while but got so frustrated with the battles that I just stopped (I suppose if I was a better gamer the battles might not bother me so much) but really one of the things I love about games is just looking around- being a tourist in a new world. And in a world as gorgeous as Lost Planet it is even more frustrating for me.
What does everyone thinks? Do you like games that keep up the fighting? Or do you like to have some time to explore a little?

I agree with you.  I loved the intro to Half-life where you were just working as a scientist normally (as it were).  On the other hand, mowing down zombies with a submachine gun (in fairness, I've only ever done that in Garry's Mod, but still) was fun too.  I think that intense battles can help make a good game, but I also like the chance to just gaze at some amazing technology they've put in or explore whatever planet they've put me on.  So a bit of both, I guess.

Yes- I love the intensity of a battle- as long as there is time before and after the battle when you know you aren't in danger right away of being attacked.
It is possible that I was just never good enough at Lost Planet to get to the point where the enemies stop coming. But it just seemed like they would never end. And that was a bummer because the scenery is gorgeous.

Come to think of it, someone's probably made a Lost Planet map or two for GMod.

That being said, I think you make some good points.  I'd personally like to see more games like Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, specifically the ability to use most of the scenery in battles - I've ripped the tops off of statues and flung them at squads of stormtroopers before in TFU, and it was, or could be, a great compromise for small amounts of rest time between battles.  There were times when the battling really never did end, and the fact that you could use the scenery itself really let you pay attention to it in the midst of battle - perhaps not to the same extent, but the point remains.

I love the idea of being able to use something in the environment as a weapon- I don't think I've played a game where you could just do that regularly. It's kind of like that level in Half-Life 2 where you're in the crane and you pick up the box-car and drop it on the enemies. I would love if there were more things like that- where you can actually inflict damage with the environment and not just with your official weapon.

Yeah.  Now, if there was a game that gave you the chance to knock over buildings regularly, that would be awesome.

On a different, though related note, I'd really like to see a game with both a well-developed martial arts system and an extensive weapons set, so that when you ran out of ammo you could still awesomely beat down on your enemies, rather than using a crowbar or something similar.  If a system were developed that did this well, it would be great for making a Matrix-style combat or shooter game.

I think we could, if it's possible to change weapons in game; guns could be weapons, and martial arts could be skills.
